I was driving my '64 C10 with a 350/4 speed down the right lane of the interstate at about 70 mph. All of a sudden I hear a little bunch of "pinging" sounds, like a small bolt fell out and was bouncing down the underside of the truck. It did it a couple of more times, then I pulled into the left lane to pass a slow mover and the noise quit. I was in fairly heavy traffic, so I was in the left lane for a while and no noise happened. Then I merged right again and before I was even all of the way back, the "pinging" started again. There was no engine sound change, all of the guages were right on so on and so forth. I almost pulled over to see what was coming apart until I looked up to see the problem.
Several car lengths ahead of me was the answer. I was following a soybean truck that was leaking. I was far enough back that none of the beans were hitting my windshield yet.
Man, I never saw that coming, but I'm glad that's all it was,

Lucky that it was only beans! I have my own story about loose loads. A large bearing, about 5" in diameter fell off a flat deck truck, bounced across a lane and ripped a hole in my passenger side door. If it had bounced a bit higher, it might have come through the windshield with possibly deadly results. I was [censored] about the door skin, but that was tempered by relief that my passenger was OK.

One time on the interstate between Mountain Home and Boise, Idaho I got behind a truck leaking potatos. I was on a motorcycle. Talk about a wild ride.

Whew, you had me worried there. I was starting to think maybe all 60's trucks have gremlins. Mine does that kinda weird [censored] all the time and there's no soybean truck in front of me!

Driving da bus the other day had a big acorn drop on the road in front of me...it bounced up..I punted it with the front of the bus...it bounced again..I hit it again.. did this for about a block... Passengers were wondering why I was laughing....

I was once following a Wreaker up a hill and an engine block fell off and just rolled and bounced behind him untill it decided to bounce into the ditch,whew!!!

When I was in high school, I was following a truck on I-40 when his spare came of his trailer and bounced over my 73 Vega. I just about needed a change of undies after that one. He never stopped, so I chased the tire and rim to the bar ditch fence and loaded it into the back of the car and sold it to the Diesel repair shop for $75.00 . That was a weeks wages back then for me.

yesterday smoke started to roll out from under my hood on my 64 c10.it turned out the plastic can of power steering fluid i had stashed behind the heater has fell against the exhaust manifold.

When I was a teenager, not yet old enough to drive, I was in the front seat of my dad's '68 Impala with my brother driving. There were 10 kids so anywhere we went, once my brother was old enough to drive, half the kids went in the second car. It was night and we were following Dad and the other half of the family home from some family deal when we saw Dad do his usual flip the cigarette out the wing window. That cigarette came right back and hit our windshield dead center, bursting into a million sparks. That was an undies changing moment.
