I have a '64 GMC longbed stepside, and I just ordered my bed wood (pine) from Mar-K. I've seen their test results, and am going to paint it. I'm wondering who has done this and how much paint it takes. The POR-15 rust preventive paint is rather expensive and I want to make sure I have enough without having a ton left over. And I'll probably have to order it online, not sure where to get it locally.

As per Mar-K, I used BEHR Premium Plus ULTRA Exterior Semi Gloss enamel over POR 15. Colour code# S-H-790, Black Suede. The colour is a nice satin black.

I'm going with a gray. Still have to pick out the color, but I already ordered the POR-15 in silver.

I saw the Mar-K test results, but black just won't look right with the color of my truck.

I picked up my paint at the Home Depot. They had a large section of paint cards in many colours. I picked my colour and took the card for my log book.

It is the silver. I wasn't sure if it would actually be silver or just a lighter gray.. but it has a silver look to it. I'm going to do gray paint, and I wanted a not-too-similar primer. So I took a chance with the silver.

Why would you use Por, a rust preventer on pine?

Regular black enamel has held up fine for me on pine bedwood. 5+ yrs outside-I just couldn't put high dollar POR15 on wood...

I can see that.. I really only want to do the bed once, and it was (only) $40 a quart, which is all I should need.
