Do you have a larger pic?

I believe the tube stays in with the valve cover on because there is not enough room for it to come out. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | Denny has a good pic on his web site Dennys 216 pic Someone else will have to advise you on how that tube attaches. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,636 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,636 | That tube is supposed to be a snug fit. If it is so loose it slides in and out then it needs to be re-sized so it has to be pushed in.
Might make sure both the tube and the support are clean, put some locktite on the tube and slide it into place and let the loctite set up.
I don't remember any bolt or other support holding it into place. If it moves inside against the valve cover it will eventually rub a hole in the cover. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 | Thanks guys! I don't remember any bolt or other support holding it into place. If it moves inside against the valve cover it will eventually rub a hole in the cover. Mine definitely lays on the rocker arm. The fit isn't snug enough to keep it from falling over when the valve cover is set down. How would I go about resizing it? Will locktite work under the valve cover? The oil and heat won't degrade it? I'd think a thin smear of RTV sealant would work better? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | I believe the tube is soldered in originally.

Solder is better.
In any application of any of the above , cleanliness is ALL important. Use a proper degreaser . | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 | What type of Locktite do you guys suggest? I use blue and red on bicycles all the time but never used it within an engine.
Not to drift to far off topic but... Why is RTV (like Ultra Black) bad? I've heard this a bunch around here. When I built the 750 in my '74 Honda and 400 in my '76 Stingray we used it properly where needed. In fact the old timer helping me build the Vette swore by a thin film on both sides of just about every gasket. Don't most modern motors use silicone sealant almost exclusively? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | Sealant works good as a sealant, not a bonding agent. RTV stays flexible and would fail quickly. It would then let it pass into an oil passage and possibly block the flow, starving (like a cam bearing) parts of oil, Scott | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 | I'm running by the store tomorrow, what type of Locktite do you guys suggest?
Locktite Epoxy Weld Bonding Compound (similar to PC7 or JB Weld) sounds right as it is for use in repairing machinery and resistant to motor oil but it seems awful permanent should I find myself needing to remove the part. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,636 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,636 | The blue stud and bearing formula should hold fine and would come loose later if nneded. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 940 | Don't know much about the blue other than its the type to use when you wanna take stuff apart later.
The green is designed to wick into small places and is made to withstand fluids like gas and such.
The red will heat to 500*F before failing but I'm not sure if it will resist fluids.

But I'm glad someone said something that may know more. Been a long time since I have been into a 216. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | I had to go look to make sure. I have an extra NOS piece in the shop.

I ended up cleaning it up and using a bit of red Locktite. that little bugger ain't goin no where. ...tho I do plan on checking on it every so often for a while. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 291 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 291 | Green. I have intalled many brushes into large diesel genoraters and all they ask for is the green. I did not think it would hold in a bearing the 1st time but I sure did. | | |
