The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts 1968 school bus question

Not sure if this should be here or in the electrical area, but here goes: A friend has this bus, about '68-'72, not sure, and he is trying to locate the alternating flasher unit; we think it is the motorized type, not just a regular flasher. We looked in the switch console with no luck. Does anyone know where it is located, or if it actually has a motorized flasher??? Thanks in advance.

I'm fairly sure that what your looking for would have been installed by the bus manufacturer. If you don't find the flasher start looking into the info from the bus body dealer or body builder. Google the body brand by name and see what you get. I used to work on a lot of School Bus C&C's and don't remember any of them being equipped with a special flasher unit. I'm sure they were installed by the builder. Did you check behind the panel above the windshield and the one at the drivers left elbow?

motorized would be a bus only sort of thing that depends on the mfgr .... might try tracing wires from the column unit, and of course if it works at all, sound might find it

Depending on the Manufacturer, the flashing unit should be in the side dash panel, next to the drivers seat. Would have been motorized originally, but can be converted to electronic(the way to go). I just happen to be a School Bus Mechanic by trade. 29 1/2 years experience with the N.C. Public Schools School Bus Transportation.

Just noticed you are in North Carolina. If that bus was run in the N.C. public School system, it's more than likely a Thomas Built, or Blue Bird body.
