Posted this in the big bolt section but haven't gotten much action there.

RE: 1941-1946 chevy trucks:
Ive got a mount that I believe is from a large truck, the upper portion that butts up against the upper rail is too tall.

No matter which way I position the mount the box doesn't line up and pass through the frame.

Are large truck steering box mounts different from 1/2t - 3/4t steering mounts?

mate i dont know about there being different sizes but i would think they would be, a 2t box would have to handle more weight than a 1/2t box. are those bolts in yours high tensile? dont look as though they are, they have a lot coarser thread than the ones on the fitted steering box. Please check this out mate

I have a book that shows 41 to 46 steering gear with part numbers but it does not show a part that looks like yours. If I knew how I would send you a picture.

so you can rest easy there.
In my parts book, Section 7.234 list mounting brackets for steering gear.
1937-1946 ALL COMM. and UTIL. (exc. COE) casting #594460, part #594460
1939-1946 COE casting #3650577 part number 3650577

Hey Joe & Monroe, thanks for the information.

The mounts are confirmed to be different (thanks Tim!), primarily in how the mounts place the box itself. If I was desperate I could probably mill the mount down, but I'd rather locate the proper 1/2 ton mount.
Hollanders didn't list them but it did let me know I had the proper box.

Part #'s look the right except on one of the mounts which has PN# 594458.
Joe - what parts book are you using? I was wondering if there was a Chevy equivalent of the Ford Green Bible.

I have two books, one is a 1929-1942 parts manual, the other is a 1929-1949 manual. These are just older versions of the one I linked to ( http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com ). Just look for parts manuals. Joe
