The wipers for my truck have one control yet there are two openings in the overhead dash. What is the second opening for?

This is mine from the 37, seems to be missing something on the right hand dial side (suspect speed control), the left is a pull in and out action (probably on and off) will be sending it to the wiperman to rebuild. I can not remember how my 49 4rd vac wipers worked, its been many years, but it was not good I definitely remember that. Hope that helps with a visual. I am sure some one who is not a night owl will post in the a.m. My interior panel has two holes that the two controls poke thru.

That's correct. The push-pull is on-off and the other knob is a speed control. It turns although I can't remember in which direction as I haven't used mine in years.

I guess mine is just a single speed because there isn't anything attached to the right side of the wiper.
