How are yall doing, Well i bought my first truck today. Needless to say i know nothing about them and im pretty sure i got ripped a new one. Its a rust bucket and is rusted out in every single place possible. I didnt know any better and was just extremely excited to be buying one! Dont know if it even runs. I really didnt do a good job in checking it out or anything. I have a good friend who lives for old trucks and hes gonna help me get it running. Its a 66 GMC stepside lwb

I aiso bought a rust bucket that did not run. torn it down to the frame. im about to finish the frame and start on the cab.Ive gotten tons of help from these guys.i dont think i could have gotten this far with out the great people on the BOLT!

It sounds to me like you are starting out on a great journey just like I did. Welcome and I am sure you will enjoy this site and your truck!

What's done is done. I don't know how you could go wrong though with a 66 GMC stepside.

IMO the 60-66's are the most stylish of all the generals hauling machines.

I'd say you done good.

Maybe i didnt do too bad on the truck. I dont know if yall discuss prices but i paid 600 bucks for mine. But i really want to restore it myself and have some pride when im driving it down the road!

Don't be to hard on yourself. My truck was in "good" condition, running and suddenly: had to change all bearings, bad springs, bad transmission synchronizers, etc. etc. Trust me, is a very nice hobby to look for parts and learn a lot of stuff from the guys here.

Good luck, sounds like where most of us start. $600 sounds like you stole it, the parts are worth more than that.

Good luck with your truck. I started out with an old rusted 56 chevy 3100 that had belonged to my Dad. I found this forum and the folks here have a wealth of knowledge to help you out. The tech tips are a great place for info.

It sounds like you're off on the great adventure. Just take it one step at a time and you'll do fine. Most of us start with rust buckets and go from there too.

Remember you can't ask too many questions here. I have seen sites (non automotive) that can be rather "tacky" with newbie’s. It's not that way here, as we all remember how we were at the start of our adventure. Good luck and start asking questions, we're waiting...
