For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 24 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2010 Posts: 24 | So im curious if anyone knows where i might be able to locate a proper window seal for the rear clamshell liftgate window? my glass guy said the universal locking strip type wont work because the window is actually bigger then the frame so the slots for the pinch weld and glass need to be next to each other if you were looking at a cross section. I cant find anything that looks like itll work anywhere....... | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | year might help find an answer, but I'll suggest checking with Steele RubberBill | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | Marc what you're looking for is what's called an 'S' section rubber,as opposed to the 'H' section commonly used. I'm sure there's a supplier in the U.S. but over here I use a company called C.O.H. Baines they have an online catalogue showing all their profiles in 1:1 scale. Might be worth a look even to see if they have anything close. Ideally you'll need someting with 1/4" glass groove and 1/8" pinch weld groove. I hope this in some way helps. Good luck. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. Ill go look for it in steele too. thanks again guys! | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | Marc - sounds like you may have the wrong glass for the opening, was it in the truck originally or is it a replacement piece you got?

Piece of cake and fitted well. Steele's products are typically really good. I used them on my windows for the 51 chev. | | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 24 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2010 Posts: 24 | No I have the right one, I literally just had been over looking the part in jim carters for a week! Guess since they dont show a true picture of what it looks like that i never stopped to read the description! Ill be ordering it from the asap. this truck is my first ground up restoration and first ever time dealing with a truck of this era. Is it me or do these trucks take a lot of quarky little parts?? three seals per door.....really?? Advanced design??? i guess for 60 years ago..... everytime i turn around i need something else. i dont think i could of predicted all that this projected needed ever! hahahaha | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | Marc, the rear glass certainly sounds like it installs in the same manner as the front windshields. That is the glass is slightly larger than the aperature. Hence the 'S' section seal. As Patrick (pplumber) says it should be a fairly straight forward install. Is the window tempered or laminated? It's easy to tell by looking at the edges.
You'll have to excuse my ignorance but Clamshell 'burbs are like hen's teeth, even more so here and I have no references to work with. Let us know how you get on with it.

It seems to cost more than at some of other vendors but I know where it was made Had no issues. Just go slow and use plastic or wood "sticks" to help seat the seals in the corners. Good Luck

Also, soak the rubber in an excessively hot and soapy solution. If the door is attached to the body, be sure to lay down a thick bed of foam if you drop the glass (the soapy water makes it slippery). I took mine out and did it on the floor.
