New guy with lots of questions. No oil filter? After searching for a while, I see I may not have an oil filter. Thought I was going crazy/blind. Do ya'll retro fit one in. if so how/where/what?
Oil bath cleaner....worth keeping, or swap it out, again if so, how/where/what?
How much oil for an oil change? Don't have a book yet, but anxious to start firing her off. Plenty more questions coming, but that's a good start.
Thanks ya'll.

The oil bath air cleaner sucks a lot of oil fumes through the carb and gives off a lot of emissions. Found this out when I brought the 64 GMC for an Emissions check. We emptied the air cleaner of oil and the truck passed. I then modified the stock air cleaner and installed a paper element. I always carried spare oil for the crankcase when I had my 62 K10. The shop manual you need is from 1960 and you need the 62 Supplement to show you the few differences between those years. Never should have given it away! The accessory remote oil filter bolts to the intake manifold and the lines run into the block I believe. Never had one on my truck just change the oil frenquently.

Very nice. So you're keeping the oil bath cleaner. And I see the oil filter location there. Thanks.
I drained the oil, added 4 qts, shows half a qt. low. Haven't got it started yet. Turns nicely, but not getting spark. I changed plugs, gapped .035, new coil. P.O. had dist cpa off, looks to be a new condensor and points in there, but getting no spark. I pulled #1 wire, stuck a plug in and ground to block while kids turn the key, nothing. Tried the next plug wire, still nothing. Guess I'll run to town and get a new contact set and condensor?

It's alive!!!Replaced points and condensor, shot starter fluid down carb, turn key, fired right up.Needs a fuel pump and carb rebuilt. Starter fluid comes out the bottom of carb. Gettin there.I guess i should start a project thread here somewhere?

If you have that much starter fluid in there that it is running out the base of the carb, I think that you should let it evaporate before you go to start it. you don't need much, just a sniff of it is usually all that it takes, or you could be changing more than the fuel pump.

It was just a squirt...I think the gaskets are all just shot. Might have even been some gas in it if fuel pump is working. Pumped the tank out and put in some new gas. It will run a bit feathering the pedal, but I don't like the look of the carb or fuel pump, ordered a rebuild kit for the carb and a fuel pump this afternoon.

Pics, yes. I thought I put them here. Maybe that was in the welcome section. I guess I should put them here and call this the project thread?

Like a bad penny, I turned back up. I traded the 62 K10 to a buddy not long after my last post. We are doing another trade, and the 62 is coming back to me. While my buddy had it, he did the following....
Removed steering column (and traded it), non-power steering gear box (traded it), original axles swapped (and gone), installed 1980 Blazer axles, and bolted in 80 Blazer power steering gearbox, but was unable to hook up/attach 80 Blazer column. I'll be having lots of questions on what to look for to swap in, and ideas on getting it going again. While I had it the first time, I cleaned out the gas tank and got it running, all lights work, gauges even work. I'll ask questions later, don't want too long of a reply here.
thanks for looking...again.

Unfortunately, the appreciated-value of the truck with the original equipment, has decreased with the non-factory donor parts from the '80 Blazer.

I would put your focus on:

Start
Steer
Stop

After these areas are addressed, go to work on the rest. Good luck and do your best to bring her back to life.

Sounds like you need a minor carb tune-up (gaskets and needle valve)
