Hope its been oiling. It looks petty dry.

Hasn't run in the three or so months since I bought it, I think that's why it looks dry. It seemed pretty oily in there, just clean!

Started the wiring of the truck. Went with “It’s a snap” wiring harness. I used them for my ’65 project and was very pleased with the outcome. The wires are all color coded and marked with name and an identifying number every 12 inches. Makes the job pretty easy.

Called a glass shop over in Ft. Worth. The owner has been around since the ADs and was recomended to me as someone that could handle my windshields and rear window. Hopefully he can come over tomorrow or Friday.

Decided to put a piece of hose on the cowl vent drain pipe - turns out it is a very odd size. Had to heat up some 1/2" plastic tubing so it would stretch over the pipes on cowl vent and firewall.

I got my seats done and installed. Also started the engine for the first time. I cant wait till it's done so I can drive it. I still have the visor, the running boards, and the bed sides to do. So it's going to be a while. Terry

Got the firewall and inside cab in paint, ordering all my grommets tomorrow. The dash panel had to wait, found a few spots I forgot about that need some attention (pitting). Got the motor/tranny moved to the back of the garage (ready to go in anytime I want it to).Now I can get the truck in and out with ease for body work and complete over haul of all brakes, bearings and seals. Space is at a premium.

Finally got the glass guys over here from Ft. Worth to install the windshields and rear window. I found out after ordering the
windsield rubber that I could have ordered rubber with a chrome cover. Does anyone know if that would have been stock on a 51 3600?

Forgot to mention, just before I pulled the 261 for my truck last weekend, I built an engine dolly as outlined in Farmdog's tech tip. It worked great! Thanks for the instructions, Steve. Here's the 261 sitting happily in the dolly. Cheers, Nick

today is a good day! I finally touched my bolt for the first time in 20 days! just for a few minutes though. I drilled out a hand full of original rivets from the frame to remove what was left of the #2 cross member that had been cut out by the P.O.

Repaired the heater in my '65 yesterday. The blower would only work on high. Found out someone had "hot wired" the blower motor to only work on high because of a bad switch (deluxe heater). Went a head and replaced the resistor, took out the "hot wire" and replaced switch. Works great now. Plan on installing seat belts today. Nice weather in South Carolina.

Cliff59 and I drove our bolts to a little town about 45 miles away for dinner. It was a very enjoyable Stovebolt outing.

wohooo, I finally got ONE fender on the panel today. Put the drivers side on along with the "new" radiator apron. I'll try the right side tomorrow.... maybe the hood Wednesday to get it out of the floor, and the grille Thursday! Its beginning to look like a panel.....for real!!!

I replaced the faulty power steering pump and cranked her up. She ran great, smooth as glass. You could hear the cam lope.
I actually put her in drive and moved her out of the garage. I didn't go anywhere, just out on the driveway. The gauges looked good, oil pressure at around 65/70, amps working, and temp at 170 then 180 then 190. She was heating up and I shut her down. I have a pull fan and with the air conditioner condenser in the front of the radiator covering the top half, I believe I can add two small fans under the condenser. I’ll also change thermostats to a 160 degree. That should solve the overheating problem. I noticed the power steering, at first startup, was a little jerky when moving the wheels to the right. After driving out to the driveway it quit working altogether. I noticed a small leak on one of the p.s. pump’s lines. This however shouldn’t be the problem as the pump remained close to full of fluid. I also noticed a tiny water leak at the temp sending unit. Tomorrow I’ll check out the p.s. pump and see about getting those twin fans. I would post pics but I forgot to take any. I did take video with my digital camera and will post on You Tube as soon as I figure out how to post there.

Happened a week ago with the '46, sort of analogous to Big Chevy's day above. Truck had been sitting for over 9 months without being cranked, so I didn't have my hopes too high. Did my checklist, prepared for a lot of cranking to get her going, decided to just bump it a few turns and check things out before running it - too late - fired on first bump, awesome!! Amazingly quiet with nothing but a straight pipe on it so far.

All fluids I had anything to do with held tight, no guages connected yet so I didn't run it too long but did adjust my electric fan setting to come on just to make sure it worked. But then I noticed the power steering box (Plymouth - no hate mail guys) had a bad leak, fluid puddle on the ground. Probably a $0.50 O-ring that will cost $200 to replace - I'm taking it somewhere to do it. I'm pooped, it looks like a very hard to reach knuckle-banger causing much sailorly language, and I just know it will take me a full day or more and is likely to turn out badly. It's worth my mental health to have it done.

Also checked all the lights after nearly completing the new wiring harness - sons-of-guns all worked! Just need to get my electronic flasher relays installed so the LED's will blink.

Managed to get the steering column switch replaced, just missing the canceling cam and turn signal lever, on order, to finish that little sub-project.

And, got the new windshield glass yesterday, take it to the tinter Friday for the clear V-Cool film application and then the glass goes back in.

Finally, the Green Farmer had an unplanned visit to get a binding e-brake cable replaced and some VERY loose front wheel bearings repacked and tightened.

Sounds more productive than it's felt lately when I write it all down. Phew.

My next move is my power steering that doesn't seem to be working. When I started the engine the PS was working but when I moved the steering wheel to the right I could feel a bump, bump restistance on the wheel. I drove out of the garage onto the driveway and let the engine run t 2000 rpm for a while. She began to overheat and before I killed it I tested the steering and found it to be not working. So, today I'm Still trying to figure out what in devil the problem is. My power steering came with my Heidts IFS, my pump came with my GM crate 350. I wonder if the two are compatible.

I've taken a week off of work and today I hope to actually drive my truck out of the garage for the first time ever under it's own power!!
I've no power steering hoses yet though, so it should be 'interesting' if not heavy to say the least!

BIG, I assume you've bled all the air out the system?
That can cause the 'bumping' you describe.

I'm also sure you're aware the F*rd rack and Chevy pump operate at different pressure/flow rates.
Has your pump been adapted to suit?
Just a thought......

You might want to take this one over to the Hi-Po section for more input/advice. (If you haven't already)
