The first 3 numbers are the displacement of the engine. I don't know if car engines have this or not. "It's just a phase. He'll grow out of it." bigbadswingdaddy Shop Shark B Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 san francisco	how about by the year and or casting numbers? 1955 287 1956 316 1957 347 1958 370 1959 389 1958 and 1959 gmc engines were debored pontiac 370 and 389 to come up with 336 inches.
