on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! I am starting from the rear and working toward what's been done now and have ran into a couple of questions: In the process of grinding off the rust and repainting the frame, I've made it to the axle. At this time, the bumpers that are above the axle are sitting on the axle as the shocks aren't put on. While looking at the leaf springs, I can't figure out if the axle has been changed out and the leafs have been put under the axle rather than over the top. I put the shock back in for reference, but it will have to be replaced as I can push it together by hand. Any assistance is appreciated and here is the picture: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/W0UoLuWEcp1uhb_lfLeq9w?feat=directlink | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | Have a look at the assembly amnual. You should get a pretty good idea of what things should look like. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 90 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 90 | Brad I Like your Exhaust Hanger

Does your gear housing sit in the center, or is it off to one side more than the other? Mine sits more to the driver's side and I'm beginning to think that the axle was flipped over, causing where the leafs would sit to be on the bottom. I think the guy I bought the truck from was trying to lower it. This would also explain only having 3 or 4 leafs in my leaf spring setup. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | delta - your axle isn't flipped or the vent nub wouldn't be on top as it is in the pic - the pots are always off center, with one axle longer than the other - the spring mount pads were moved so the springs could be put under rather than in the original position above the axle, and that's why the bumpers are down on the axle, the shocks will not support the truck! - an altogether non-functional setup, you may want to consider restoring the correct configuration .... may be part of why the PO gave up on the project Bill | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 188 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 188 | Bill, you are 100% correct! Looks like I've got some welding to do. What kills me is that I can't even tell where the mount pads were removed! | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | What kills me is that I can't even tell where the mount pads were removed! You may have a Task Force era rear end. That is how they mount. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 188 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 188 | Is that why I've only got the three leafs? Any links to pictures so I can see how they're supposed to be set up?
All of you are a wealth of info! Thanks! | | |
