took the cover off it and drove it.It was a good day

Yesterday I drove from Chicago to Columbus Ohio and back. Dropped off my torque tube and differential to have it split and then an overdrive installed in the torque tube. I'll report on the saga in the tranny form.

I put my rebuilt 4 speed back in and finished putting the floor etc. back together. I also put a little bend into the shifter to clear my knee when it is in reverse.

Removed the tailgate. Removed most of the interior pieces and found swiss cheese. Cleaned up the inside of all pieces of rust and dirt. Removed the seat and frame. Figured out engine is the original engine from 52. 90k miles on it. Removed wheels and tires they are shot to hell. Start list of parts needed. Got depressed. LOL

Mocked up my newly sandblasted and painted parts. Still gotta paint the block

Firewall mounted brake pedal assembly. Then installed the carpeting and the headliner. Hopefully I’ll get to the steering column this week.

Mounted the new fuse block on the inner firewall, and started pulling wires tonight. What a mess of spaghetti.

Getting closer to being ready to fire it back up for the first time in many months.

Took mine out for some exercise yesterday. It was sunny and 16 degrees. Today, it's a freaqking snow bonanza. The truck won't be seeing pavement for awhile.

scraped some dirt off of the frame.

Got the running boards on, things lined up fairly well. Busy with the hood strip and front emblem.

49 1-ton Put in the two piece windshield. Wish the corners and back windows were that easy.

not a lot just rattlecan restoring the frame after cleaning with the sandblaster yesterday no snow or rain here in he desert

just scored a brand new offenhauser intake with linkage and beehive oil filter with lines and 2 mini chrome air filters all for $275 bucks!! guy was selling cause they wouldnt fit his 250 in his wifes 57 chevy bel air.

Finally got a good windshield regulator assembled and ready to install. Had to cut a new worm and graft it in to the old crank spindle, made a new brass locator for the spindle, and had to put a bushing in one end of the housing. Took the horn and bracket assembly off so I can fab up a new bracket. You know what they say - "it's the little things".

I walked by it and apologized for not being able to take it out for a run. 8" of snow and ice on the roads. it gets around great but if something happens i would have a big fight with insurance company. oh well.

Yesterday I blasted the lower radiator apron. A fellow bolter had one that was much better than the one I had. I don't usually do anything on sunday but I did sneak out to the shop long enough to spray some self etching primer on it!! Tomorrow it gets paint. I had originally planned to use POR15 but decided to keep it for another project.

Mounted the steering column and made custom linkage to connect it to the gear box. Working on the throttle cable and kick down cables now.

FINALY, after 4+ years the engine fired up and idled smoothly at 2000 rpm for a little over twenty minutes,( I wanted to break it in) at which time the power steering pump began to smoke and scream. It seems the front seal on the pump began to leak until the fluid was gone and the bearings began to squeal. I'll put another pump on this weekend. I wonder if sitting up for 4 years dried out the seal.
I filmed the experience with my Sony digital VCR camera and if I can get the film transferred to a DVD I'll post it on You Tube and post the link here. It's pretty funny when it all hit the fan and the smoke blew out around us.

I'll bet that was exciting.

I got the electric fuel pump change-over done on my burb. I dummied out the mechanical pump and have fuel running through the settlement bowl.

I put the sway bar on the front of my '57,if i have time this weekend,i'll do the rear.Got power to the garage for my new welder,looking forward to learning.

went to the harwdare store, picked up a few sticks for a project.

Here's another.....

Installed my horn bracket that I altered to properly locate the horns (they were right against the radiator). Looks a lot better now. Also tried to figger out why cowl vent will not stay closed. I think the foam gasket has something to with that - not sure yet. Anyone ever had an issue like that?

Loose the foam rubber and get a seal from Steel Rubber.

That might not solve the closing problem but it will improve the seal.

That's a novelty plate on the front, ordered it from .licenseplates.tv DMV plate on rear.

The front plate is correct for year and state. Put my number on it

The last time,I drove across that way,was in 1974,right after I got out of the Air Force. I was driving truck,cross country teaming with my brother.

My truck was originally red, when my Dad bought it in 73 he had it painted dark blue. Ill roll with this light blue for a while
