We are going through the motor in my son's 1970 Z-28 .
I've rebuilt many SBC engines over the years and Never ran across this ; the cam will not come out of the block no more than 1 inch .
I think one of the rear cam bearings has spun . If so how can the now be removed?

Had the same thing (almost) happen when I changed the cam on the Z24 years ago. Book said to remove the distributor, but the engine doesn't have one. Took me a while to realise the plug covering the dizzy mount also had the upper shaft for the oil pump. Cussed GM engineers for a while before I figured it out.

Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice)
\'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run.
My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787.

Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.
