I think you can get 3/16" and 1/4 welt is bigger better? Any suggestions on the best overall.

I'd keep it as small as possible. Closes the gaps but not too obvious.

The really good stuff and a "rubber" type is the welt used on Volkswagons. You can get a pretty good size roll of it for around $20. Its very plyable and looks good...if you want black.
Friend of mine picked me up a roll from a dealer.

Real interested in hearing just exactly what your friend found Alvin, and where exactly he got it. Did you mean a new car dealer? No sense in asking what size it was because it was probably some metric number that I wouldn't recognize without looking it up.
I've never noticed if the new bugs have fender welting, was it for an older VW?

Denny, just went to the shop and checked.
The "bag" has has TWO labels on it. The First one stuck on the bag says:
BUGPACK
Air-Cooled Gear!
Fender Beading Kit 25Ft. Black
**Down in the corner of the lable it says
"a divison of Dee Engineering.

Then there is a lable on top of that one that says:
German Automotive
Fender Beading Kit 25ft Blk
A price sticker on the bag says $10.95.

Part # on both labels is 6017

It measures .215 with my dial indicators. Bigger than 3/16th but not 1/4".
I called Michael and he says he got it at "German Automotive" up in Fletcher,N.C. but I'm sure you can get it elsewhere.

This is probably more info than you bargained for but its the entire "scoop" as I know it.
The stuff "feels" good and pliable even in my cold shop right now.

Thanks Alvin, that should be enough for me to go out and do some searching.
Hey, you guys down there don't know cold!!!! I had to duke it out with my "big old wife" over who was gonna wear the Long johns the other morning. Guess if the cold keeps up we're gonna have to get some "His" and "Her's" to hang on the bed post. We don't need them at night, if you catch my drift.
Stay healthy and have a happy new year.

I’ll give them a call see, if they have the welting I’ll have them ship me up a bag, gonna be needing some this summer, I hope.

Denny, I'll bet a dollar to a hole in a donut that its the place. Would you like me to cut you a 3" long piece for your observation? I can do it if you want. Let me know.

yeah, I understand about the longjohns but Victoria has to go out in the cold morning air to go to work so I let her have them!

No don't ya go cuttin a piece out for me. For ten bucks I'd just order a roll of it to try it. I'd find a use for it even if it wasn't just what I was looking for.
Bugpack has a whole catalog of parts for the restoration of the Beetle. They are to the Bug what Jim Carter is to the Stovebolt.
