Classic Parts of America aka chevy duty sent a defective H/L switch.

they will re send a new one but the hassle is a hassle

after i installed it...... it did NOT WORK. I then did a simple continuity check x2, with my VOM and confirmed that the switch did NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY i called CP of A. then I went back outside to unwire / rewire my old switch, the NEW switch CAME COMPLETELY APART IN MY HANDS. the top plate lifted off exposing the guts and three small springs, the four fold over tabs are thin and apparently not bent over properely and this is their expensive switch @ $45.00.
first photo shows the swap, everything is going just fine. HEY it's a brand new part, i should not have to double check it @ 45bucks. i took the first to place in my photobucket site.

second and rest of the photos show removal and when i got to the second screw removal the whole thing fell apart in my hands. :mad:

HAS anyone else had a defective expensive 47-54 12V stock replacement H/L switch from these folks??

Jim, I've still to investigate,but I suspect I have a defective switch.
I recently hooked up my new loom, followed the instructions to the letter and guess what,it doesn't appear to work.
Mine came from Truckandcarshop.com
Cheap ROC trash....
With the knob pulled out to full extension it flaps about terribly,I have no park,dip or main beams,plus the dimmer function doesn't work.
The rear park lights work fine.

What is this Cole Hersee switch? Care to expand?

Jim, ask them why they except such junk from vendors..... and see if they tell you the same thing they told me over a piece of their junk...this is what they told me "we been selling this part for years and haven't had any problems"
Yet, I sent them a FEW post to show how my particular part was a piece of junk and they never responed anymore. That was two years ago...still no answer!! LOL

Cole Hersee is one of the manufacturers that a lot of OEM over the trucks use. Most Navistar part numbers are a Cole Hersee. They don't make reproductions, but they do make stuff that works. http://www.colehersee.com/catalog_top/index.htm However, after running over the road trucks for almost 47 years, I have seen my share of new defective parts.

As you can read crenwelge i already know about cole hersee
all other switches on caroline's truck are CH. the original H/L switch worked just fine yrs ago

I SENT the switch back yesterday with a long note.
if i do not receive a full refund including my return postage which is the same amount that
they charged me to ship the thing out the first time i'll let all of you know about the outcome. :mad:

I spent some time today 'troubleshooting'.
Turns out the switch isn't as bad as I first thought,it turns out I had a couple of dodgy grounds due to some thick powdercoat.

I'm still not entirely happy with the ROC switch though.....

I'm still considering the Hersee switch.

this should not have cost me a dime out of pocket for buying JUNK !!!!!!

i will write back to them and demand the FULL REFUND of all $$$$$$ spent on this mistake

I rebuilt my original switch, that way I know what I've got. The knob would only pull half way out and the switch wouldn't work, but after a good tear-down and clean-up, it works like new.

because i bought and paid $ for a switch that didn't work and our time is as valuable as the vendors i charged
them the same amount of postage and handling as they charged me

Dear Classic Parts of America aka chevy duty accounting mgr.., 2/16/11

Recently I needed a 1951 ½ ton light switch and was recommended to buy one from you. You sent the switch. I took pictures because I share what I do with other stovebolters. I removed the boxed switch and installed it. It failed !! I called you guys and obtained a return authorization # . While I was removing it, it literally fell APART in my hands. More photos were taken and more photos were posted. I returned the switch for credit because it was a fair attempt at making a cheap switch to pass along to folks who love their old trucks. You would have done better had you spent a little more time and money sourcing out a decent re-manufacturer, but fell way short.

I returned the switch to you with an explanation as to how I did the install and tested the switch with a VOM after the install and still wired, to double check it’s failure, before it fell apart in my hand. You charged me about $7.xx ?? in shipping AND handling. I returned the part and charged you the SAME amount in shipping AND HANDLING. You ONLY gave me credit for $2.76 ?? as seen on the return parcel post. You SHORTED me about $5.00?? in handling. My time is like your time, it took time to open and install a faulty switch only to remove it, make a call and sent it back.

If you believe it only works one way you failed again to understand this economy and your customers beliefs.
