For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 22 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 22 | I am installing a 350 in my 54 pickup. I want to install a 4-speed, floor shift manual transmission. I envision using the truck as a daily driver; likely not hauling anything too large/heavy.
Does anyone have any tranny recommendations? Are there other variables I should be considering?

An A833 would be high on my list if the rear gears were between 3.73 and 4.11.
A Muncie m21, m22, or a saginaw 4 speed or even a warner T10 would be on the list if the gears were 2.73- 3.23.
This has been discussed at length many times before. Do a search on the subject of rear gears and you will find more information than you could ever want. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 | I have a Munci m21 in mine but thought the T5 I had in a previous truck was great. It's still a little off-center, but works good with a long handle.
cm If you can't fix it with a hammer and screwdriver, you need a bigger hammer.1965 Chevy C10 | | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 474 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 474 | I like the T5 for daily driving and if you can afford it the T56.My 1952 3100 has a T56 ,it is very easy to stay with the flow of interstate traffic and 80 to 90 seems like "55". | | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 22 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 22 | Thank you. Good point about the rear end. I am new to all this and it is challenge to think that far ahead. Looks like more Google time as I figure all this out. Thanks again. The guy who installed the current tranny has it so close to the dask that I keep jamming my knuckles when I shift. I will need to dummy things up before final positioning. Thanks for the insight.
