I am moving from drum to disc on my 54. I can go IFS and get a new suspension as well as brakes. Cost will be $2,300 or so. Or I can go with a simple conversion kit from performanceonline.com or other for $700 or so. Has anyone worked through this? Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks. Bob

I used performance online. Very complete, and easy to install.
Highly recommend them.(if that counts)

Obviously the IFS install entails a lot more work.
You have the initial purchase cost then, unless you're doing the install yourself you have the added labor costs.
Ideally you want to remove the front clip, engine and trans.
It just makes access much easier.
You then have to consider your steering hook-up (More $$$)

If you are just wanting to improve the brakes I would go with the cheaper option.
The brakes dont care if its a beam axle or IFS.....

It's what you want that matters.

Thank you. You pretty much detailed all the issues. I am leaning toward the simple brake swap and not the IFS. I can preserve some cash for later issues.

I do appreciate your response. Had a chance to spend 10 days in Scotland a couple of years ago. Beautiful country.
