I would like to know what this motor originally came out of. The serial no. is V1207CKR. It is a 3970010 casting. It is painted blue instead of the more common chevy orange. The head castings are 333882. Originally wore a Q-Jet carb. Has the same alternator bracket used on the '72 Camaro.(original??? I dont know ). I dont know how much emission "crap" was on it originally as it was already in the truck when I bought it and has no emissions on it now. Anyone have a way to track this one???? I already called my local chevy dealer and was told only that they think it came from a truck........what years did they paint the sbc's blue??

My Motor Magazine repair manual does not give information about carburetion of horsepower ratings for that particular engine code. Depending on carburetor and camshaft options, the horsepower and torque ratings can vary widely for 350's. That one is probably a 9:1 compression model with 76 CC cylinder heads, set up for unleaded fuel. Late-model 350 V-8's such as that one have a thinwall casting design for weight reduction, and shouldn't be rebored beyond .030" oversize during rebuilding. Earlier engines could be bored .060" without overheating or cylinder cracking concerns.

If you see "010" and "020" cast on the block, under the cover, it has a higher nickel content making the 3970010 a stronger and more desirable block. | | |

According to the nastyz28 website (thanks Wrenchbender) the motor is indeed a 350ci. from a 1977 Camaro (as stated by Hotrod Lincoln). It originally had the california emission package (170 hp)...4bbl carb...a/t. thanks to all for the help...... www.nastyz28.com is well worth putting in your favorites, tons of info on identifing small block and big block chevys Carl
