I can convert that to almost 10 tons, or 7 tons. But what is the empty weight of a truck like mine ? My Chevy Viking 1959Ulf Hedlund. Eskilstuna. Gvw says 21000 here and 19000 there. Still confused. A 6500 model can carry what aproximately ? Remove actual weight of truck from 21000 or 19000, or even 14000? My Chevy Viking 1959Ulf Hedlund. I have a somewhat similar truck, a '57 6400 series with a 12 ft. steel floor flatbed dump. My truck weighs 8500 lbs empty, the GVW is 19500 lbs giving me a payload capacity of 11,000 lbs. Your 6500 series should be GVW 19000 lbs or more. Your truck, being a bit longer than mine plus a heavier bed should weigh around 9000-9500 lbs. empty, giving you an approx payload of 5 tons, (10,000 lbs.)
To be completely safe make sure your tire ratings in total will meet or exceed the GVW you have. Get a true empty weight on a set of truck scales when you can. And the obvious....have your brakes checked out thoroughly, plus your steering.
Properly driven these old trucks can handle fairly heavy loads. I overloaded mine recently to 24,200 lbs and it handled no differently than at 20,000. I don't advise doing this, however.

And to be able to pass registory in sweden, weight is checked. So that figure I will have exact. So, nice to know, aprox 5 tons will be what I am allowed to carry.
Of cource the brakes will have a checkup during next winter. First year will be just testing everything out.
And remove stickers on the doors, and add some nice old style paint instead. My Chevy Viking 1959Ulf Hedlund. Eskilstuna. Sweden [email protected]Also: Ford Galaxie 4 dr 1959 Ford Custom 4 dr 1964 Ford Mustang GT 2005

GVW plate in cab says 16000 and custom papers say it had a weight of 2700 kilos. Does that make sense ?
Would mean to me that max weight, truck with load is 16000, about 7 tons.
So it means I can carry 7200-2700, which is 4.5 tons.
