where did you all get replacment shackles and bushings.i need them for 53 3100.1/2 ton.

I think all the vendors sell them,I deal with these two companies.

I just went through the search for shackles for my '54. No one has them in stock. They are no longer being reproduced. I got good used ones through Mothertrucker.

John, I ordered mine from Obsolete Parts just down the road in Nashville, Ga. I was pleasantly surprised with the good quality and they were made in CANADA and not Hong Kong!! Plus, shipping is not that bad either from out neighboring state. I was very pleased.

I am curious. Are we talking about spring shackles or cab support shackles? That is not good news that our aftermarket people stopped supplying them.

might find'em at a local place, seems Rock Auto has'em for the front at least and both front and rear are common to quite a few years

front shackles are shorter than rear

Here they show front and rear as a different part number.

yes front and rear are different, but fronts fit a range of years AND backs fit a range of years, ie: each are common to quite a few years

Is this to save manufacturing costs by eliminating the taper on the pins/plates and putting nuts on the ends instead? AFAIK a company in Montreal still makes the bushings/pins as per the original style with tapered ends. Maybe a production run of stainless shackle plates could pay for itself.

Did I miss something?? The message I get from reading this thread is that they are no longer avalavle. Yet the Chevy truck reproduction vendors and Rock Auto all seem to list the kits on their sites.

not available??....got mine from Obsolete Parts just this summer.

Curt, you will note in my post above that I mentioned mine were from CANADA and of really good quality and like originals.

....but I'm sure if they can be made "cheaper" someone will do it. Not to sell them at a reduced cost but so they can make more money. I don't mind paying a couple dollars more for good quality but to may MORE for INFERIOR products is against my principals while their product margins grows only for the sake of greed.

This has been confusing, Denny. In the past year year, I have purchased front and rear spring shackles for a 1954 1/2 ton Chevrolet Suburban (same parts as pickups). As bowtietim posted above, Classic Parts and Jim Carter have them (Rockauto.com does not show 1954 rear shackles; NAPA has front & rear spring shackles for 1954 but they are quite expensive).

The ones I just put on my suburban are identical to the originals I took off.What makes you think the edges aren't tapered ?My pins and plates are beveled,grease zert screws into the end of the pins.I purchased my shackle kits from the above link at Classic Parts Of America.
He has a 1953 3100 Chevrolet he wants shackles for.
Now I'm confused about what Curt B is talking about.

It's bad enough being confused myself and I apoligize if it rubs off on others. I assumed the ones in the Rock auto link were not tapered being they had nuts on the ends as I had never seen that before. Looking closer I saw those are for bigger trucks (3600)and maybe they are tapered but have nuts for extra strength? The place in Canada that made my pins/bushings did not have plates available.

That clears that up Curt.The first one at rock auto is for a one ton 3800.The second one listed 3100 or 3600 is the correct one for the front of his truck.
