I have a 1959 Chevy Apache. I have the 250 c.i.d. block ready to install. My question is: what engine mounts do I need for the front and the rear to mount that 250 I6 motor? Do I use the same type that were on the 235? What is the best way to mount the front and rear. (Also, I have adapted a 700R4 Trans to the 250 motor). I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks.

The 250 mounts like a modern small block, from the sides and the tail shaft of the transmission. Nothing from the 235 will work with the 250. You are going to have to fabricate mounts or adapt V8 mounts to the 250. I am not sure how the '59 transmission mounts, but I would be willing to bet you have to make a crossmmber to hold the 700R4 tailshaft. The driveshaft will be wrong to, its unlikely the length and yoke will be right for the new combination.

Actually a mid '60s truck bell housing will bolt to the stock mounts and to the 250. The 230/250/292 L6s and all the SBCs use the same bell housing bolt pattern, at least until 1988. Get the SBC truck bell housing with the mounting surfaces on an angle to horizontal like the original. Contact Langdon's Stovebolt on line for the front mounts. Tom Langdon has a 292 kit, but will modify it on request for the 250. Also you'll have to use a rear trans cross member for the 700R4.

It looks like I didn't read far enough in your post. You can forget the bell housing stuff I mentioned. You'll Need Langdon's front mounts and somebodies rear cross member and mount. You will probably have to remove the original bell housing cross member, too.

Be sure to get the detent cable exactly right!
