I'd like to see the results of your search Don. I did one and found 3,813,133 pages of mixed up stuff.

I'm sure you don't care, but I wish most here would give an answer if you have it and stay out of a thread if you don't. I mean, "Do a search, its been discussed multiple times." isn't a lot of help from a forum that claims to be helpful.

Which gray paint are you recommending from Jim Carter (for a 1958 283 (light duty, presumably)? The 6-cylinder gray?

Was this this discussed or clarified in any of the earlier posts (I spent about 15 minutes looking, but . . . ).

gobolt,

try a search on: +283 +58 +gray +paint

Now that I think about it more the topic was discussed over at the VCCA site. I'll take a look for more info from that site. Don

Plasti-Kote #202 Universal Gray engine enamel is as "correct" as you'll find and it's easy to find locally

It was said that 55 thru 62 used the 6 cylinder grey for the base V8 engine. This was posted by Chevgene. He is a great source of information and has been involved for many years.

I've tried the search feature and get overwhelmed sometimes. I wish the search was more helpful or wish I knew how to use it better. I am looking for the correct paint for my '59 235 as well. To find "gray" from a link to Tim's site doesn't do it for me.

Me again... I know I haven't looked closely at this site but was thinking, a technical reference page with links to accurate data would be awesome. OK, I'm done... ha!

Supposedly PPG 34560 is a good match for 54-63 truck engine gray. You'll have to guess that this is the same gray used on V-8s.

Bill has posted above: "Plasti-Kote #202 Universal Gray engine enamel is as "correct" as you'll find and it's easy to find locally"

Jim Carter's truck engine gray is lighter than the pre-54 engine gray/blue (as sold by the Filling Station for 29-62) and I think it is a good match for 54-63 engine gray (Carter lists it for 29-62).

Hellomrwilson,

There is a technical-reference-page link at the top of almost every page of this forum: Tech Tips

That won't help you much in finding things quickly because there is a wealth of good information in the Tech Tips (look through them every so often, just to get an idea of what is there).

MrWilson, I am all too aware of the shortcomings of our Search feature. I have tried in vain to get something done about it.
