I can't remember if I took out a adapter for the water temp gauge on the block or not. I tried to install the sensor on the block but it won't go in and I got one of those reducers from classic parts but its to big for the block. Somebody get me going in the right direction.

Any hardware or FLAPS would have it. Probably 3/8 x 1/4. As truckernix stated, the hole for the water temp sensor would be on the top of the the head.
The adapter from Classic parts is for the hole on the head of a later 235/261, which is a larger diameter hole for the electrical water temp sensor.
