I haven't installed my ignition switch yet. I have the switch and the tumbler that has the key. When I put the two together, should it fit in there flush and the key turn?
Mine doesnt. It all looks like it should line up and seat in there, but it doesn't. I have had a couple of guys who know a thing or two about these trucks tell me it should, but it's not.
I have even gotten a different ignition switch, and I'm now contemplating sending my tumbler with the key back and see if that's the problem.

The tumbler should be resonably flush with the switch. The dash retaining collar that holds the switch in place should definitely be flush when installed. You should not be inserting the tumbler into the switch without the key in the tumbler.

I've got the key in there when I insert it, but the key won't turn. Is it supposed to?

The key should be turned counter clock wise after you insert the
the tumbler into the switch housing. That locks the tumbler into the switch housing. After that the key should turn normally clockwise as if you are turning the ignition on.
