The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Front end shaking

I am working on a 42 chevy 3/4 pickup. When I drive it down the road at about 35mph it starts to shake really bad in the front end. It is also hard to turn the right. I have greased the front end which didn't help. I did raise it up on a rack and when I move the front tires from left to right I have no problem moving them but I cannot move them back the other way however when I lower it back down and the front end off the floor everything moves very easy with the steerng wheel. Any ideas to try.

Put the truck back on the rack.With a very large pry bar try to spread the suspension connections with it.Sounds like its in the steering linkage to me.

Along with checking everything in the steering I would not overlook the tires.
I had a shimmy/shake in my 95 truck and which started at 45 mph and it turned out the tires were the cause.

Thanks for your help but where do I pry on to spread the suspension connections? Is this where the ball goes in to the connections and are tightened up with a screw and then locked into place with a cotter pin. I have a manual so I will search this out.
