Mycurrent little truck . 1981 short bed step side has a 305 th400 with a Doug/nash overdrive. Can the th400 be mounted to the 230,250,292 engines? Thanks again guys. I gotta ask these things being new to inliners.

Yes, they have the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the small block.

Yes, it fit right up to the engines but I understand it,s a power robbing tranny. I would not use it on smaller than the 292. It is longer & uses a different drive shaft yoke so you would have to have the driveshaft modified.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

The Chevy one will work, the BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac and Cadillac) can be made to work. They do use a more than twice the power a Turbo 350 uses.

The trick setup on a torque monster like a 292 might be a Powerglide. Very low power requirement and the motor would easily make it accelerate hard.

Yes the Doug nash is expensive. I paid $900.00 for it and it was a good deal That is why i was considering the 770r4 as a replacement. I have used the 700r4 behind sbc in the past with great results. They must be adjusted at wot. I am considering pulling the 305 (IN GOOD SHAPE) and replacing it with a 250 (after i rebuild it) and the 700r4 trans. I could then sell the 305 and Doug/Nash overdrive to cover my cost. I`m just thinkin out loud guys Thanks for the input. Have a fun day tomorrow.
