I read somewhere (probably here) that the 80's Ford Econoline rims are a good step away from the split rims. The only followup change would be to change the tie rod ends for the modern one ton parts. I have located some 1988 Econoline E350 8 lug rims with LT-215/85 R 16 tires. I have also located some Chevy steel wheels from a 1995 1 ton van. Which is the better choice and why? Is there another stock steel wheel that might be recommended? I would like to get away from the spit rims so I can use some decent radials.

A wheel is a wheel except for the size and offset and the ability to accept a wheel cover/hub cap.
What I'm saying is, if the bolt pattern were the same could anyone tell the difference between a chevy and a mopar wheel. Only those with sharp eyes that know wheels.

I am hoping I can get some input as to what others may have found to work well as a more modern wheel replacement. I thought I had seen where the Econoline rims of the 80's were a good replacement. Someone else mentioned he thought the Econoline rims went from a 16.5 to a 16 rim in the mid 80's. Then in 1990 they changed it all again with the backspacing, which makes it a mismatch for the original suspension and brakes, and tie rods. Any suggestions??
