I know what the original color would be, but I am wondering if there are any practical reasons for painting the dash a different color than the body color. I am thinking of painting my '50 a light blue and was wondering about painting the dash body-color or going with a charcoal color.
Any thoughts?

The second cab I bought and using now is all green. I like the darker green dash because the interior trim stands out more to the eye.

I hadn't thought of that because my trim has been in hiding for a long time now. My gauges are tan Dolphins, and I think that they would look ok with the blue too.
