Should I be able to get the starter to turn over by touching the housing to ground on a battery and a hot wire from the post on the starter to the positive post, completely bypassing the trucks wiring? I cannot tell if my starter is good or not. Clamp the housing in a vise, firmly, but not tight enough to distort it, before applying any power!
