What year model third member will replace the one in my truck? I believe someone said I could just change out the "chunk" instead of the whole affair. You will have to weld up the pivots where the axle housing bolts up to the springs.

If the truck will be used for in-town and highway driving would it be better to 'bite the bullet' and buy the gears from Patrick's?

Long time ago, like when I was a teenager, I'm 60 now. My father let me date in his 1953 1/2 ton shortbed pickup. I put new seat covers on it and keep it clean. He used it to go to work in also. Granny 4-speed, heater. That's it. To make thi shorter I found some rims just about like that on your burb. They were supposed to be off a 1939 chevy. 6 lug. Just wondering if you might have heard of that. Thanks for lisening. Today they are quite rare. There is a repoped version available. Not sure what's on that burp, but they look darn good. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | The original artillery wheels are hard to put modern tires on. The repops aren't real expensive as wheels go, and allow using modern tires. Check places like Chevs of the 40's for the repops.

The pivot points are part of the original torque tube axle tube. Only need to weld them if you are swapping gears into an original axle.
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.

You will be using your stock springs, but you will need new perches. Since the 49 is an axle over spring setup, the blocks will work to lower it. The Task Force trucks are axle under spring, so using blocks will actually lift the truck.
