My 59 Viking has 6 lugs, are the bolt patterns the same? I've been doing some work at local National Gaurd Armories and I keep seeing the 1 1/2 ton cargo trailers which use the old 6 lug, lock ring type split rims and 20" military tires. Apparently they are replacing most of them, so I expect surplus wheels to be plentiful.

Here's an ebay auction:

Yes the artillery wheels as they are known are 6 on 8 3/4" just as the 6 lug 2 ton Big Bolt wheels.
There are tow type a two piece wheel and ring and a three piece wheel and two piece ring. I prefer the three piece.

I saw a 46 or 47 sitting at the cheese plant in Mtn. View Friday and noticed it had military tread tires. The reason I noticed it was because they looked big on it. I'm guessing they may be 10:00's.

If those do become available be sure to let us know. I for one need at least two, if not three (a spare tire would be good!).

I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.
But thats just MY opinion!

Yes,
the military wheels and tires do fit the big bolts.

My son has an old 1971 Chevy C50 flatbed that he bought military tires and wheels for in order to get rid of the old tires and widow maker wheels. They fit the rear perfectly in the 9.00X20 size.

The reason I am searching here now is because the military wheels are a little too wide for the front end, they rub on the tie rod end.

Can anyone reccommend a wheel type that will fit the front that is not quite as wide that will take modern day rubber?

He is not worried about the tube vs. tubeless, the truck will get limited use mainly around town.
