The only information I have found with a Casting number 3788406 search is what I already know. 230 Chevy truck engine. I see that both use the same Conecting rods. Same part number.
So is the only differance between a 230 & 250 the Pistons & Crank shaft? 230 have a higher RPM due to a shorter stroke?
I realy would like to know if this 230 engine, plan on purchasing will work with my 250cid crank, pistons, cam good parts ect.
The 250 has a crack water jacket on the block. Thats why i need to replace it.
This is the number near the Distribitor on the 230 engine. F0215NE Have NO idea what the numbers mean?

It appears to be a 1963 230CI built on Feburary 15th. It has 140 hp with 8.5:1 compression, a 1 barrel carb and it had either a 3 or a 4 speed trans behind it, so says my book,

Thank You for all the information.
It was very helpfull.
I did not know a 292 crank shaft would fit in a 230 block. If im understanding the information, seems all my 250 cid parts should fit on this 230 cid block. And my 250 head should bolt right on with no problems.
Qestion! The blocks back in 1960's better castings than 1970's? Or is it all the same metal?
