The final drive ratio will still be the same. When I put a 4 speed in my 55 1st I had to have a drive shaft made & cut a hole in the floor to clear the top of the shift tower.

I should clarify, my 55 1st was an open drive line and the 4 speed tranny I bought out of the local salvage yard out of a 2 ton truck. The length was longer than the 3 speed so I had to have a shorter driveshaft made. I don't know if a PU 4 speed would be the same length as the 3 speed or not.

It's better through the gears. First gear is not quite as low as stock. Gets through traffic alot better. I'm also running a 3.08 gear. Oh! and an open driveline. I'm also using Patrick's custom Hurst shifter kit. Shifter sits real nice in the cab with this kit. Mine was originally a 3 on the column.

Mind saginaw is 3 ring and I picked it up at a swap meet and had it rebuilt. Fit right in no changes! It changed the way the truck drives completely! I start in second unless I have a load or on a hill. Fully syct and fun to drive with Patricks kit looks like the original top loader 4-speed. Get rid of that 3-tree....This is the way to go!!!

You want a t5 4speed so you will have a 4th overdrive.
