Hey all,

I've been a member since 08 but this is my first time posting. I'm not an official 'Bolter yet, but I've got a plan.

My Grandfather's 1951 Maple Leaf 1300 is sitting in a barn at the family farm and I've finally given myself the kick in the butt I need to get it back on the road.

As you can see from these shots I took back in 2008 that the truck has been a barn owl for at least 15 years. Another classic case of 'it ran when I parked it.' Sorry for the quality of the pictures, my old camera was on it's last legs and had trouble with the dim light in the barn.

Due to the junk piled up around the truck I wasn't able to get many good shots or look at the engine at all.

Right now the plan is to go out and get the truck next spring once the snow melts and spend the summer getting it roadworthy and safe. Other than that I don't plan on touching it, I want to leave it the way Grandpa left it.

One quick question about the lights on the roof. Was that something common or did the old man rig those up himself? Moving the lights back to the standard positions will be one of the few cosmetic changes I think I will make.

Thanks for everyone's time. I'm sure I will be posting and pestering more often once I've got better access to the truck. I hope to get back to the farm before the new year to take better pics and check out the engine.

From what we can see through all the dust it looks like a pretty good old truck.

Those lights are the usual ones that were mounted on top of the fenders behind the headlights. He probably mounted them on the roof for ease of wiring and visibility to traffic behind him.

Welcome neighbor. My truck sat in the bush outside Beaumont instead of a barn so you have a much better starting point than I did. The best local source for mechanical parts is Gary Automotive at 10060-80 ave. and for reproduction stuff Scott’s Super Trucks in Penhold is the closest vendor. I have an excel page with most mechanical part numbers and if you want a copy of it send me a PM.
