Not many of them survived. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 129 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 129 | It is an oilfield truck. My family drilled and produced. This truck was used to haul HD-9 Allis dozers (with 4-71 diesels), pumping units, tanks, etc. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . I don't think GMC built anything like that. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 32 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 32 | Two years back I bought a 42 fire engine of this type. I tried to find it a home with no luck it was just to big. I even tried to give it away, again no takers I guess for good reason what does one do with a truck that has a GVW of 44,000 pounds! Don't ask me what happened to it you don't want to know. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 129 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 129 | Good eye. The black truck has a mack tandem under it. The beige truck is stock setup. The black truck was used more on the highway and they changed it for better gearing. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 129 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 129 | Lockland, It takes a special type to want to mess with these big trucks. The space they take up, bigger tools required, highway legalization entanglements, etc are all good reasons to stay away. But they do command attention! | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 | I was fascinated by the old helmet hood GMCs in the 50's and bought my first GMC tractor in 1964. I have run over the road trucks ever since. I have the facilities to completely rebuild them and I have kind of gotten into that the last couple of years. However, there are very few people with the interest as well as shop facilities to work on them. That is why so few big trucks survive and they are still going to the crusher. I realize I am part of a very small group which is getting smaller all the time. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 52 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 52 | If I could find something cheap enough than I would love to join this "religion". Trucks are just plain cool the bigger and older the better.

I see a really cool looking 8 axle truck and pup with polished aluminum boxes, wheels and stainless air cleaners and stacks. Of course they would look good pullin a lowboy to. | | |
