on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 64 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 64 | I have a question about my rear leaf springs on my 46 half ton.I am planing on taking them apart ,blasting them and then using poly liners between the leafs like I did on the front. But I noticed there are 10 leafs in the spring pack, from everything I have read there should only be 7 or 8 leafs. They are the 1 - 3/4 wide like they should be but why would I have 10 leafs? Thanks for your help Longhorn | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Often leaves were added to the truck to carry more weight. You can often tell which ones have been added. They usually are square on the ends & while the original have a bevel. Sometimes the length doesn't seem right. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. The truck was lower in the front on the driver's side. My friend who had been an auto mechanic since 1919 told me that was from wear & tear and the truck almost always being driven without a passenger...maybe. Anyway he told me I could take the almost flat spring off, take it apart, try to re-arc the leaves in my vice and add an extra leaf...one of the smaller ones. I did all that and it worked. Jacques

Mine was a rust bucket but mechanically great. I wish I had still had it.
