These are missing on my starter, generator, and distributor. I would like to install a set. What would be a proper numbering sequence to have stamped on each of them?

Hy fonz8261, according to my Canadian parts book your component numbers should be as follows:
Starter 1107055
Generator 1102667 or 1102677
Distributor early engine [before engine number 234472] 1110090, or late engine 1112353
all of the tags would have a black background [6 volt], hope that helps.

I have purchased the tags. It references Model and Serial in the area to have #'s stamped. Can you please clarify how this should properly read? Thanks.

The numbers you were given are model numbers. Serial numbers refer to the production number of an individual unit, so try to find one with a tag on it, and alter the number slightly to make yours unique. Since you're numbering the unit ficticiously just to be period-correct, I suppose, the actual serial number won't matter as long as it looks right.

There's really no guarantee the model number will be correct, either, so as long as the unit works, the only thing that's being accomplished is making them appear to be model and year correct for your truck.

Since it looks like we are just guessing on the stampings on the tag (especially the serial "number", which is not a production number), here is my guess (based on an Internet search and a look at a few tags):

Delco ID Plate - 12v example (12v = red tag; 6v = black tag)

Left code is the Model ID - some numbers are given above

Right code is the Serial ("number/code"), which appears to be a date code (a web search confirms this).

Year | Month | Day
7 A 15
7 = 57
A = January
15 = 15th of the month

Here is a 6v tag on a 1954 6v generator

Serial ("code/number"):
Year | Month | Day
4 D 9
4 = 1954
D = April
9 = 9th day

Supposedly, for 1953 and newer, the month code "I" was skipped (so, September was "J" and December was "M").

Pick a date that suits you (birthday, or maybe a date that year that is of historical significance; or, a date near the starter or distributor dates, if they have tags).

Thanks for adding to the richness of this information. Upon final inspection, I am having difficulty in determining where on the distributor the tag is to be placed. Can someone provide the detail on this?--a picture would say a 1000 words! Thank you.

1952-53 6v Delco GM generator (supposedly) from a photo in an eBay listing.

The attachment screws/pins usually come with the tags.

If the old attachment pins broke off, you will have to drill them out (use a little glue/loctite with the new pins).

I am good on the generator; it is the distributor that I can not locate proper placement of the tag. Thanks.

1942 is on the side of the distributor.

1947 (Advance-Design) is on the plate. But further on in the manual the tag is shown on the side of the distributor.

The 48-52 Shop Manual shows the distributor ID information on the points plate but in the engine section the distributor is shown with the tag on the side of it?

The tag is not shown on the distributor in the 1954 manual.

Some parts on the 235 distributor changed in 1953, Maybe the exterior tag was deleted with those changes.

Tim, did I miss something? When I click on the frist link isn't that tag on the outside side of the dizzy instead of in/on the points plate?? I may need to clean my glasses!!
