Does anyone know what was the different ways that Chevy mounted these two engines in 53 since that was the year they switched over? I plan on keeping mine the same and use the 216 water pump to avoid the radiator clearance problem. Is this what Chevy did in 53?

Engines mount the same. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 | In '53 the trucks used a front mount, cars used side mounts. Any later 235 (you'll want to get a '54 or later or a '53 powerglide motor for full-pressure oiling) can be converted to front mount as the engine plates are interchangable. You'll use the original 216 bell housing, flywheel, and starter (even if you're upgrading to 12V).

Search ebay for 235 water pump, the plates are always for sale and there is a good photo. Also I used the stock front mount plate on my 261 motor, and just drilled it for the old 216 mount. | | |
