Just wondering if they're worth it or not. I'm running a TH350 now, but was wondering about maybe puting one of those in. Whuddya think?

The early ones do have a problem with a waek pump, and the throttle valve are sensitive to plugging, but other than that they are very reliable. For $150 each, I'd go for it if I was you.

700R4 and there is an uprgrade kit available for them if your going to do any towing. I would recommend getting the kit just because its used.
Makeing the fix is easy and Ive done it plenty of times. Still a good transmission so go for it. | | |

The 60 degree V-6 and Buick V-6 are the ones that are different, and they do not match each other either.

Especially the OD. It did take me awhile or several times getting in and out of the truck to get the detent cable set right for changing and downshifting....ALSO,it you are thinking about a shift kit forget it. If I don't take off easy it will spin the tires when it changes and "pop" your neck. I think this winter I will take the shift kit out. Just info... | | |

#66468 09/30/2006 3:51 AM | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 159 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 159 | A good core is worth $150 Another thing to keep in mind is the early 80 -85 not exact on the year had no fail safe.What I mean by fail safe is ,if the throttle valve cable is not set correctly or breaks you loose all pump pressure.What GM did was add a fail safe so if this did happen it boosts the pump pressure preventing it to shift but does'nt fry the unit from low pressure.The 88^ have better internal parts .The out put shell has a high failure rate , they strip the centers out.
By chance either of these cores 4WD units ? I'm looking for one.
In the works 2006 GEN III 6.0 /4L80E/ 205 New process,A/C and power brakes .

They are from 4WD trucks. Has a different tailshaft and won't work in a 2WD truck. I'll just keep my TH350. I don't have any complaints about it.
