I couldn't get the bolt off where the connection went, so I pulled the generator off. The copper wire inside the generator was broke that connected to the bolt. I think my turning the bolt, twisted it until it broke inside. I assume I can splice in some additional copper wire. However the plastic piece the keeps the bolt from turning is all but gone. Any ideas on fixing this? Can the platic piece be replaced? I guess I shouldnt be typing in the dark! | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,796 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,796 | Find a piece of rubber fuel or vacuum hose the right size to be a snug fit in the hole in the generator housing to insulate the bolt from the housing, then use a thin plastic or rubber washer above and below the housing to keep the bolt from making contact with the generator. You might have to drill out the inside of the hose a little to make the bolt fit. Another approach would be to use a piece of electrical heat-shrink tubing to insulate the shank of the bolt as it passes through the housing.

They have a generator rebuild kit which includes posts, bearings and brushes. Might as well do all the maintenance sinc you have it off the truck anyway.
