Can someone tell me how to check to see if my tie rods are shot on my 1957 3100 Chevy 1/2 ton?
I called NAPA and they no longer carry them. Can I still get them made in USA? I know I can get them at Filling Station and other after market places...But I have a feeling they are made in China

If you don't like my carbon foot print, stick it up your Prius!! | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | unlikely the tie rod is shot, unless it's obviously bent [or has a piece of angle welded to it because it was bent] - have someone rock the steering wheel back and forth [stopped!] while you watch underneath - just look for excess slop without any wheel movement .... might need some of the joints replaced, like the tie rod ends ... don't worry about imported, they'll work

These are what I have. Also, how can I repair the drag link or connecting rod for the pitman arm and left spindle?

If you don't like my carbon foot print, stick it up your Prius!! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,557 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,557 | Jon,read this tech tip tie rods I used a 9/16" drill bit and drilled 1/8" to 1/4" deep with the drill.I then chucked the pieces up in my vise and heated with a torch,used a big punch and hammer to drive the balls out.make sure you use the straight threaded tie rod studs and not tapered.There is all kinds of info about this subject here.
