The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Doors Outer window trim moulding (AD)

Working on my doors now and decided to test fit the exterior window opening trim today... YIKES!

Do people actually paint this floppy wet noodle thing off the door and more importantly do they really put this on AFTER it and the door are painted?

If anyone has any experience regarding painting and installing this thing I'd be very appreciative if they would share it.

I can get it on but I can't imagine doing it without scratching the paint.

We managed to get my stainless in without any scratching. I do think it is a two man job though with the second guy just chasing the floppy end and keeping it clear of the new paint.

Woody I painted mine off the doors, I simply hung them up with welding wire through the screw holes,and scooted the paint on.
I wanted mine silver to contrast the blue I was originally planning.
I did manage to intall them (a trial run) without too much damage,although in doing this I noticed a small amount of cracking at the tight front radius.
As FGT said a second pair of hands does help.
It's a bit like trying to lift a drunk man!
I'm presently trying to source a good second hand stainless set.

Woody, all mine was painted and I managed to do it but I took it very slow....even starting and stopping a few times. I do not remember which way worked best but I think it was putting it in the front bend first. I finally got a little aggravated and simply put a little more pressure on it, as in bending it down to size, and then it just seem to pop in place. After the first few tries it was not so bad and I put the driver side in the first shot. You can do it. Just take your time..... and maybe put a piece of masking tape around the door edge.
