An in-line resistor to send only 6volts to the gas gauge. but I can't remember where to order one. Any ideas? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 | RadioShack is where mine came from. Don't remember the part # though.

That's not my experience. When I converted my 55.1 panel from 6v to 12v years ago I didn't put a reducer on any of the gauges (never thought about needing to). I put over 100K on the panel after the conversion without a single problem with any of the gauges. Maybe I was just lucky or maybe it's not really necessary. I don't know, just advising of my personal experience.

It moves, but not as far as the full sweep as intended. Is that a voltage issue? I put a new sender unit 0-30ohm from the local auto part store. It was difficult to get the gauge to work at all. I had to insulate it from the panel as it was originally. So do I need a voltage reducer after all? Or is it something different?

Have you checked the sender with an ohmmeter to make sure it's 30 ohms full and 0 empty? With so much of this stuff being made in china any more, just being new doesn't mean it works right.

Since I know I have a good 6 volt guage, and I'm going to 12volts, a $15 reducer(vender price) mounted on one of the guage studs, is still cheap insurance against laying on my back trying to get back under the dash when I should be crusing down the road. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | If you disconnect the sender lead, you should get full scale. If you ground the sender lead, you should get an empty reading. | | |
