On my '69 step side steps, there are four 3/8s holes in a rectangle about 3 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches. It looks like a place to mount a pad of some type to allow you to step on the step without scratching the paint. However I can find no such pad listed in any catalog. Any ideas on finding something to mount there or what they are for?

Maybe someone had mounted a Jerry can there in the past. I had to weld up a few holes in mine because of that on my 55.2. Not sure if the steps are the same. Mine only has two squared holes for the frame support (that "L" shaped brace).

Good luck.

Don't know but there is a pad with a Chevrolet bow tie in the center that one can put on the step ...had them on mine once.

Red69.... get you some of the fancy plating like some truck tool boxes are made of and cut you a "pad" to match the holes. A short time ago a bolter posted a link where he had used this plating and cut it in an "oval" shape and it looked rather nice that way.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. Not gonna stop now.
