Hi all,

I just installed a rebuilt hydrovac on my 48 2 ton from my local NAPA.I understand you have to put some kind of oil in the booster. What kind of oil and where on the unit do you put it in?I got no instructions with the unit. Also what kind of oil do you run in the brake system itself (master cylinder and lines?) I have new brake lines a rebuilt master cylinder and wheel cylinders.

Thanks!!

When mounted the small plug on the end of the can should be on the bottom side. I used Marvel Mystery Oil air tool oil and it's been working fine with the old leather seals. The spount on the bottle made it easy to put in that little hole. the shop manuals call for half an once, but I'm betting it'll drain back out of the hole before you could overfill it.

I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.
But thats just MY opinion!

Question,

Does anyone know if the shops that rebuild these Hydrovacs use the origional leather diaphram or a newer synthetic material.(rubber, nylon etc...)?

Shops typically use new rubber seals.

Whatever your choice of oil, you do want to go for a non-petroleum based lubricant.
