Now I can't get the transmission to shift into any gear without grinding them. I can't push the clutch pedal far enough to disengage the clutch. I've adjusted the pedal as much as I could. Any suggestions?

There are 2 different lengths of throwout brgs. If it didn't come with the pressure plate it may not match. Are you sure you hace the disc faceing the right direction? They generally are marked "flywheel side". I'm sure you have the bearing surface faceing the clutch fingers. Remove the lower cover & have a helper work the pedal up & down with the trans. in neatral. The disc should float from the flywheel & pres. plate. If all that is good & pactically all the play adjusted out of the linkage put the trans in high gear with the clutch pushed in & try to start the engine. If it starts slip the clutch a little to free up the pilot bushing & seat the lining. If its locked up tight you will have to tear it down & see what went wrong.

The disc hub with the torsion springs in it has about a 1/2" offset, and if you put it in the wrong way, the springs contact the flywheel attaching bolts and won't let the disc release all the way. The thicker side of the hub needs to face toward the transmission, away from the flywheel bolts.

Has any body ever heard of such of thing? The bearing needs to be at least one inch longer.

Your bearing should be 1 7/8" length. My problem turned out to be a faulty "rebuilt" pressure plate. I bought a complete "new" package, clutch,pressure plate and TO bearing, from NAPA and installed them this afternoon without any problems. Everything works fine now. Good luck with yours.At the same time I like to thank Ted,Fried,Wrench,probably HRL and a whole bunch of Stovebolters for walking me through this problem.
