When I start my 1941 chev with a 235 install, it idles nice at first and then within a couple seconds it quickly begins to idle at a very high RPM until I go under the hood to the carb and take the link connected to the gas pedal and full up with it and then back down. After this, it good until the next start. It sounds as it someone is pressing down on the gas pedal but no one is.
I first that it was a vacuum leak but I removed the line and cap. That didn't change it.

Maybe re-tighten/ use a closer link on the original spring? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 | If your manual throttle is connected there is a chance that it is holding the carburetor linkage on a higher idle.
Also check the surface where the idle screw rests. It should be stepped so that as the choke is closed the idle speed setting is increased (you should always depress the gas pedal when closing the choke). Most of the time the idle will not drop off of this step by pushing in (opening) the choke, you have to blip the gas pedal.

Disconnect the linkage from the carb and see if the problem is outside or inside. Sometimes the throttle butterfly is not centered in the bore. If this is the case give me a holler you can get in real trouble here.
