on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 9 | I have been studying the articles on the T5 swap and have 1955 chevy car rear end to use. Is the T5 avaliable in any years later than 1985 that will work? It seems to be getting hard to find the older S10s. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Yes. They used them on S-10's till about 94, but the 88 up had an electronic speedo drive. If you use one of those you need a converter (very expensive) or change the rear housing with one that has mech. drive (hard to find) or use an electrical speedo. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | FYI, the T5 was used in Ford, AMC, Jeep,GM and likely others I can't remember. It was also built in a lot of different gear ratios. I have a list that I'll look for. it is quite lengthy. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 9 | Thanks for the info guysm any help is appreciated. | | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 19 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2010 Posts: 19 | so how far back is the t5 5 speed w/ over drive and metric speedo in the s 10's? Be careful a lot of the early ones were 4 speeds. They look a like. The is a tag on all of them that is held on by one of the rear housing bolts. There are numbers on the tag. In the bottom left is a number 1352-xxx. Take this number & find a chart on the internet. It will tell you by this number what it came off of & the gear ratio's. The Camero is a good one to use but the shifter is way to the rear. You have to have bucket seats. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. However you must be careful which one you get as the low gear ratios vary greatly. They all have a tag 1352-XX and those last digits tell the story. Many of the T-5's had 4:03 (4 cylinder & diesel) 1st but V8 Camaro/Firebirds had as high as 2:95 low gear. I show over 200 applications of this transmission with Nissan, Izuzu, TVR (?) and all the others I previously listed. Try to stick to the larger engine V6 S10's or V8 powered Mustangs, Camaro, etc. for the best application. Also watch out for the stick position as that might be a factor. I can't comment on the metric speedometer but new electric speedo's work well and are not terrible expensive. All T5's are OD but that ratio varies too.
If you find a few jot down the tag numbers and e-mail to me and I'll look up the data for you. There are millions of them out there. | | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 19 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2010 Posts: 19 | hey thanks so much this has been driving me nuts for days and sorry for the hi jacking on the tread. i found tons of them (s 10s) but did not what to ask to get the right trans like this one. http://montana.craigslist.org/pts/1709954670.htmlbut it is a 4cly | | |
