After getting the brakes and wheels put back on it, the truck went easily on the trailer and we headed into town for some lunch. Checked the Chains and straps, made some adjustments and headed on down the road to KC. Luckily Ed had the tank already off for some work as with the tank on the truck I wouldn't have tried hauling it myself. I'll be going back for the tank and some other various bits and Pieces in a few weeks when we can coordinate it. Here's the pics from the haul home. And Ed's Pics from when he got it home. Since I started talking to Ed about the truck I've been developing "The Plan" in my head. I've always been interested in old Civil Defense stuff, from the old Duck and Cover films with Bert the Turtle to the signage to old Geiger counters and Radio equipment. I'd seen pictures of CD Auxiliary firetrucks, as well as panel trucks setup as rescue rigs in the past and thought it would be cool to build one, and impart a little history with the truck theme. So the plan is to turn the truck into a CD Auxiliary fire truck and form my own Auxiliary Fire Dept. with some of the local guys. Since the tank is rusted out I plan on cutting the top off, the baffles out and a door in the back and the bed will be turned into an open "Parade" bed. I've got a poly tank I can set inside anytime I want to use it as a tanker. I need to measure but I think I can relocate the hose reel to the passenger side running board just in front of the rear wheels. For now the truck will just get a CD logo and some lettering but eventually down the road when I do a proper restoration of the truck (Prob. in retirement) I'd like to paint it up in the white/blue color scheme common on the CD trucks. Thoughts, Comments, suggestions? She runs good. I couldn't resist driving her around my lot a half dozen times, Kinda tricky with all the brake parts in a box in the back of my Silverado. Gotta love Low/Low... I like the idea of the parade truck on account of the tank being rotted out. It'll give many others the thrill of riding in an old bolt. Keep us posted on your progress.
Good luck Jock. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. When you get some dates, let me know as I'm working on a few parades in July. Example: I got accepted into the Boy Scouts of America 100th Centenial parade in Washington, D.C. on July 25th! It should be cool!!!!

I was a scout too, many years ago. Unfortunately I don't hit US soil 'til the 26th(volcanic ash permitting!) and will be in New York for two days, then heading south. I've posted a thread on the GabFest forum regarding my visit.
